I've always thought blogs were for "dorks", a common expression used in my youth for one who was not in the in crowd, or part of the mainstream, or on the side if you will. Because they didn't "fit in" or were able to express themselves publicly, they reverted to pen and paper, or in today speak, keyboard to screen.
There are literally millions of blogs littering the internet today, which leads me to assume there are many more dorks today than there were lets say, 30 years ago. But then, perhaps not. They were always there in great number, its just that "the blog" gave them all a reason to come out of the closet. And come out they did, in full force, blogging about their cats, their passion for food, or whatever pleasure or fetish they pursued.
Some blogs are dark, some are happy, some are sad, some are political, some theological, and some just plain bore to tears. For example, "Today Grandpa held little Johnny and he farted" was a post by a blogster titled "Life At The Ranch". I'm assuming the writer meant little Johnny, but then again perhaps Grandpa was feeling a little ripe from the prunes laid out for him at breakfast.
But you get my drift. It was meant for someone to read and perhaps smile about the fact that either Grandpa aught to start considering Depends, or little Johnny fluffed and passed a nugget. Enough...it leads me to the conclusion that bloggers are not necessarily dorks but real or fictional people with something to say.
I've never considered myself a writer or a person with something to say, but I did catch the blog bug a couple of years ago when writing a few updates for friends on a mission trip I made to Brazil. It ended up getting more than the few stares I expected, and I got a real charge from the people that read and interacted with it. It turned out to be great press for the organization and it was fun to do.
So now I'm hooked, but my reasons for blogging are not ego driven. I write for the few that have encouraged me, and ignore those who would want to judge. Don't expect classic penmanship (penpersonship?), punctuation, or perfect sentence structure. Don't expect long theological discussions, political rants, or flowery wisdom either. If you wish I can suggest some blogs that will satisfy that appetite. However, do expect some creativity mashed with satire, a blend of cynicism, and perhaps mixed with the odd smile or tear.
Everyday life as I see it, and hope to share it. Happy to have you alongside friend. Pass me the Peanut Butter and Cheeze (-:
